The Real Me

Defining the “real me” depends on several contexts and perspectives of an individual. Generally, it is an authentic identity, stripped of any facades or societal expectations of oneself. In other words, embracing one’s genuine thoughts, emotions, values, and aspirations, and living in alignment with them.

It takes a lifelong journey to discover the real self through self-exploration and personal growth. Moreover, it involves introspection, self-awareness, and the pursuit of authenticity in various aspects of life. Humans as a person are made up of two components such as strengths and weaknesses. Identifying our strengths and weaknesses is based on who we think we are and what we believe in ourselves. Depending on how we feel and see ourselves we can either have a positive or negative self-image.

If we have a positive self-image. We will feel good about ourselves. We will love and like ourselves. We’ll be able to accept everything about ourselves of our strengths and weaknesses. We will focus and think about our positive qualities and positive things that others have said about us. We’ll know our strengths or talents, the areas we are good at. We’ll also know our shortcomings and limitations of what we can do and what we cannot do. We’ll feel proud of the things we have done. We won’t make excuses and cover our mistakes but correct the mistakes we have done. Eventually, we’ll have confidence and try new things. But if we have a negative self-image, we do not love and feel good about ourselves. We focus more on our failures, faults and weaknesses. We think and speak negatively about ourselves and others. We often overlook our strengths while exaggerating our failures and faults. As such, we lack confidence and we think that, if we try something new, we’ll fail.

The truth is, it is important to have positive self-image when we think of ourselves. How we see ourselves will affect our thinking, our behaviour, and how we relate to others. Self-image has a very significant impact on our happiness in life. A positive image can enhance our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Whereas, a negative self-image can decrease our satisfaction and ability to function in these areas. Therefore, beginning to accept and loving ourselves by looking at our strengths and the areas we are good at is a good start to having a positive self-image. Secondly, we’ve got to be thankful for what we have by not focusing or keep thinking about what we don’t have or should have. Lastly, with God’s help and faith in Him, make our weaknesses our strengths.
